“The pandemic has led to a prolonged exposure to stress in all aspects of society. Technology and constant news has only increased the pressure on many individuals and worn down even the most resilient. I have definitely turned more inward to my practice. My painting discipline has been my refuge. More than ever the creation of something beautiful has become a need more than want. Simple subjects such as birds and botanicals reveal universal themes of beauty, time, fragility, life, death, decay and birth.Such rich sources of inspiration.Time away has allowed for exploration and extension in works. I use light- play, painterly brush work, scale and rich colour across more monumental imagery. Simple subjects become more complex, seductive, spiritual or joyous.I like to fall into my pieces as I paint. I am forever grateful for what painting has both taught and given me. It has held me still.”
