AURA AUSTRALIS celebrates the soundtrack of Australia through a vibrant collection of synaesthetic paintings inspired by iconic Australian songs. From anthems of love and heartbreak to stories of resilience, nostalgia, place and belonging, each work transforms music into colour, inviting viewers to experience familiar songs in an entirely new way. Spanning generations and genres, the exhibition reflects the richness, diversity and emotional landscapes of Australian music. AMPERSAND is a new series featuring large geometric shapes that are still a play on symbol and song. Using dot, dash and diagonal motifs the works echo the titles of the songs that inspire them. Named for the symbol meaning “and”, the series extends Cassandra’s exploration of music, meaning and visual language to offer a complement to her synaesthetic paintings. CASSANDRA NG is a contemporary Sydney-based artist creating bold geometric paintings inspired by the relationship between music, colour and emotion. Drawing on chromesthesia, the experience of music as colour, Cassandra translates songs and lyrics into visual language through expressive colour palettes, Morse code and gold leaf. Cassandra holds a Master of Fine Arts from COFA UNSW and is represented by galleries across Sydney, Melbourne and regional NSW. Her work is held in private collections locally and internationally.
